Do you currently have a car that isn’t being used, and is sitting in your garage or driveway collecting dust? If so, you may be looking for ways to get rid of it and take it off your hands. But did you know that donating your car can positively impact the lives and well-being of a family in your community?

With the holiday season approaching quickly, you may be starting to wonder how you can give back to your community this Thanksgiving and/or Christmas. Donating food to the food bank or soup kitchen for big community holiday meals, adopting a family in need to give Christmas gifts to, and volunteering to put together gift baskets for soldiers overseas are just a few thoughtful and impactful ways of serving during the holidays. While we encourage you to get involved in your community by donation or volunteering, there is also another way to give back and serve individuals in need in your community. And that is through donating a car.

Here at Catholic Charities of Santa Clara County, we are dedicated to giving back to our community through car donations. We’ve been serving families in need right here in Santa Clara County for 17 years through the generous donations of unused cars.

Catholic Charities is a non-profit organization with the mission and purpose of serving and advocating for families and individuals in need and those living in poverty. Our organization is rooted in the values in the Gospel, and we are working together to create a more socially aware and compassionate community for everyone of all backgrounds, cultures, and beliefs to live and participate in.

One of the ways in which we serve families and individuals in need in our community is through car donations. A vehicle, while unused to you, has the potential to provide families with the basic necessities they need to live life.

A donated car can provide for families and individuals in the following ways:

  • Provide families with food, clothing, and household necessities
  • Assist individuals in finding and securing a job
  • Seek care and assistance for the elderly and for families with children
  • Work with displaced refugees

If you have a vehicle that is not being used, consider donating it to the Catholic Charities of Santa Clara County. This gift will impact many in our community. Plus, you’ll be getting an unused car off your hands. Do you need more reasons to donate? In addition to helping your community-members in need and getting rid of a nuisance of a vehicle that’s just been sitting in your garage or driveway, you’ll also receive tax benefits for your car donation.

The process of donating a car is made simple when you work with the Catholic Charities — we made it this way! Within 30 days of your vehicle donation, you’ll receive an IRS form 1098-C, Contributions Of Motor Vehicles, Boats, and Airplanes. This form shows the amount of gross proceeds that were received from donating your car, as well as showing what exactly you can file as a tax write-off. Learn more about the tax benefits of your vehicle donation in this past blog post.
