So You Donated Your Vehicle

Whether you donated your unwanted car, truck, SUV, trailer, boat, RV, bus, or motorcycle, we thank you!

After you donate your car, you’ll receive an IRS form 1098-C for your tax deduction.

But then what happens?

What We Do With Your Car

What we do with your car after you donate it to us depends on the car condition. If it is drivable and in good shape, we can sell it to a driver in need. However, if it is more along the lines of being ready for the junkyard, that’s exactly where it’ll go. Most of the cars we receive as donations are sold for parts.

The value of the car is determined by the gross proceeds raised from the sale of the donated vehicle. Therefore, a vehicle in nicer condition will be a higher contribution to the community because it can be sold at a more expensive value.

The cash value accrued from the sale is then spent to fund our various other programs.

How We Spend The Money We Make From Your Car

After the car has been sold, the Catholic Charities of Santa Clara uses the money to help reduce poverty in our community. Through helping families find life essentials – such as food, shelter, and clothing, job hunting alongside the unemployed, assisting displaced refugees, or providing care to the young children or elderly, a car donation can help fund these charitable missions.

How To Donate Your Car

We strive to make it extremely easy for you to donate your car. If you have a vehicle that you no longer want, provides no value to you, or you simply don’t want to deal with the whole selling process, our team will work with you directly to pick up your car.

Step one: Give us a call, or let us know online, to tell us about the car you wish to donate. We’ll arrange a time for vehicle pick up, which can be the same day or at a time convenient for you.

Step two: Prepare your paperwork. We need a signed and clear title indicating the vehicle belongs to you, the donor.

Step three: Our team will be out to pick up your vehicle, with a free tow truck, within 24-48 hours of initial contact.

It’s as easy as that!

If you’re not quite ready to donate your car but would like to support the community, we also accept cash donations at http://www.catholiccharitiesscc.org/donate-now.
